Dhanteras is also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi. The word Dhan means wealth and Teras means 13th day as per Hindu calendar or it is the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. It is the first day of the 5th daya Diwali Festival as celebrated in the most part of India. In this year Dhanteras is on Friday (1st November 2013).
On this day the Goddess Lakshmi along with the lord of Assets & wealth Kuber is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. On this day peoples purchases different types of precious metals like gold, silver, steel, mild steel, utensils and much more to bring prosperity on their house, offices & working place.
On this day diyas lit on the main entrance doors to welcome Goddess Lakshmi Ji in to the house. Homes are fully decorated with attractive designs of Rangoli or Alpana & fully covered with lights, lamps & fancy lights. Aartis and other devotional hymns are also done on homes for blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Many sweet dishes, fruits and desserts are offered to her. Childeren & peoples wear new clothes on this day.
